Cable FX Presents Damages - A Wonderful Ensemble Cast Involved With A Great Story
Drug dependence can be awful. Soon the drugs you use are not enough and you need more and more. Damages, which has won star Glen Close both an Emmy and Golden Globe, shows this truth in a brutal light. Close is not the only one on Damages so honored. Many of the actors, creators, and writers on Damages have been recognized for their outstanding work.
Glenn Close plays Patty Hewes, the lawyer from Hewes and Associates. Whether loved or loathed, Close plays her role with a brilliant relish. And then Ellen Parsons, played by Rose Byrne, shows up. She's a recent graduate who many firms scout, but prefers to work for Patty Hewes. While their characters clash, neither will submit to another's will. As these characters evolve, you see some amazing performances.
Damages mixes things that happened in the past, and things that are going to happen along with the current storyline. If you miss even a minute of this show, you are likely to miss a key plot development. Attention is a prerequisite for keeping up with Damages' complicated plot. And it's important to be observant. Closely observe the neck of Saffron's shirt at the same time Ray Fiske does in the first episode, for example. Characters come and go and you are expected to remember them. Also, be ready to lose at least one of your favorite characters. From show to show you'll never know who will make it to next week. There are thirteen programs in the first season, and some of the best actors will likely not be in the second season, except in flashbacks.
Now, I ask will my addiction continue? Can the writers keep coming up with such great material? Are there still more twists and turns left to fill another season or two with such intense intrigue? We can only wish. If the people behind Damages can't keep up the outstanding quality that they've maintained so far, TV will lose one of its most promising shows in decades.
One thing I suggest, if possible, invest in a Hi-Def TV to get the full Damages' experience. Comcast Cable offers a great lineup of digital and High Definition channels. The show is even better when it is in high definition. But HDTV isn't all. Comcast provides outstanding Digital Voice and High-Speed Internet service as well. My previous DSL service did not permit me to download a/v files or keep up with my personal favorite programs as quickly as this service does. I also got rid of long distance fees when calling anywhere in the nation with crystal clear Comcast Digital Voice service. By taking advantage of the Comcast HD Triple Play bundle I pay one monthly flat rate for all three great services. I located the best promotion on the Internet. I recommend Comcast as a top-notch provider for broadband, cable, and digital phone service.

Grey's Anatomy Seasons 1-5
Just when I was finally starting to get sucked back into Grey's Anatomy, when I had finally come to terms with the ridiculous Denny/Izzie sex, when I had finally said, "hey, I actually like where they went with this," he had to come back one more time to ruin it all. After last week, I thought we had seen the last of Denny Duquette. Izzie told him to go and he went. But it's like Denny said - he's Izzie's tumor and as long as she still has the brain lump, Denny's gonna keep getting a tan down at Izzie's imaginary beach. I think I speak collectively for the entire population of Earth when I say thank god Izzie chose to get the surgery.
Was there ever any doubt that she wouldn't? The potential of Izzie sticking with the IL2 treatments was tossed around and dangled in front of us, but let's be honest - this is a season finale and where's the tension in that? Surgery was the only option the second Derek presented it.
As for the rest of the episode not much happened. Watching Sloan and Lexie talk about the future and marriage and condos was cutesy fun but added no real value to the hour. Nor did Weber's attempts to lure Bailey back to generla with the Da Vinci - a giant, robotic surgical apparatus that lets a doctor remove organs as if they were playing some kind of futuristic carnival game. It was funny to watch, but Bailey was never going to walk away from the commitment she made to Dr. Robbins and the pediatrics program. She needs the joy.
The biggest revelation for me was George's decision to join the army as a doctor. It seemed pretty obvious that it was heading in that direction, especially after hearing the same "there's still work to be done" speech from both Owen and their patient Charlie (played by Zach Gilford). Plus, Charlie's comments about not connecting with his family or friends any more certainly rang true for O'Malley.
At the same time, it was still somewhat shocking. When I think of George, I think of a queasy, indecisive wuss and he just witnessed a guy who's leg was so painful that he wanted it cut off even though it was heathly. It was like watching a dog eat its own puke - George saw something terrible but he decided to pursue it for himself anyway. I'm a stickler for character development and this was about as solid as it gets, but is this something George would actually do? The rest of the hospital is mourning Izzie's cancer and making "life is too short" proclamations and George now seems set on putting himself in harm's way.

While their characters clash, neither will submit to another's will. Several incredible performances are given as the characters progress through the story.
The show has a dizzying array of flashbacks, forwards, and events happening now. Each moment is often an important piece of the plot so it is not a show you can miss without losing something. You must remain focused to keep up with the twisting storyline as it develops. And it's important to be observant. Take for example the moment in the shows beginning episode when Ray Fiske examines the collar worn by Saffron. What might appear to be an extra in the background could very well turn out to be a character later in the show or series. You should be aware that at least one person you like will be gone. From show to show you'll never know who will make it to next week. The initial season is thirteen episodes although it is unlikely that all characters will return for a second unless it is via a flashback.
I wonder if my addition to Damages will keep going. Is it possible for material of this caliber to continue being produced? Will there be further plot twists, enough for yet one or two more seasons with sufficient mystery? We can only hope! If the people behind Damages can't keep up the outstanding quality that they've maintained so far, TV will lose one of its most promising shows in decades.
